KidClear
In Development
KidClear is currently in development and not yet available on Google Play. Support opens fully at release — but feedback and questions are welcome now.
Getting started
KidClear will be installable from Google Play at release; a store button will appear on its page here the moment the listing is real. The app is offline-first: its core features work without a connection.
- Reviewed starter library across colourful categories
- Five audience levels: 5–7, 8–10, 11–13, 14–17 and Plain Language
- Forgiving search: misspellings, phrases, acronyms and UK/US spellings
- Read-aloud result pages with related searches
Permissions
KidClear asks only for what its features need, and works sensibly if you decline. To review or change grants: Android Settings → Apps → KidClear → Permissions.
- Microphone: Voice search: speak a word instead of typing it. Transcription happens on the device.
- Internet: Declared in the standard build. A dedicated family-offline version removes this permission entirely, and the explanation library works offline in every version.
Common problems
The app is misbehaving or running slowly
- Swipe the app away from Recents and reopen it.
- Check Google Play for an update.
- Clear the app's cache (Android Settings → Apps → KidClear → Storage → Clear cache) — this keeps your data.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
History and favourites stay on the device until you clear them in Settings. Clear history and saved items in the app's Settings, or clear the app's storage in Android settings. Full details are on the KidClear privacy page.
Does it really work offline?
Yes — the core of KidClear is built to work with no signal at all. Anything that does use the network is listed on the privacy page, and none of it is required for everyday use.
Battery and performance tips
KidClearavoids background work beyond what its features need. If Android's battery optimisation interferes with reminders or timers, exempt the app in Android Settings → Battery → Battery optimisation.
Accessibility
- Read-aloud controls on every result page
- High Contrast and Calm Reading visual modes
- Five audience levels including Plain Language
Accessibility problems are treated as bugs — reports are very welcome.
