Privacy Policy

What Do I Spend?

Your spending data is stored on your device behind a biometric lock. Receipt OCR runs on-device; the Open Banking layer is architecture with a mock provider, not a live connection.

Development status: What Do I Spend? is still in development and is not yet available on Google Play. This page describes, from the current source code, how the app is being designed to behave. It will be finalised as the formal privacy policy before any release, and updated if behaviour changes.

Information the App Accesses

  • Camera frames while scanning a receipt (on-device OCR)
  • Transaction notifications from apps you explicitly choose

Information Stored on Your Device

  • Transactions, receipts, categories, budgets and settings

Information Transmitted Off the Device

Nothing. Spend has no mechanism for uploading your data.

Sharing and Third-Party Services

No data is shared with third parties. The app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs.

Permissions

Every permission Spend requests, and the reason it exists:

Camera

Scans paper receipts. Text recognition runs on the device via ML Kit.

Notification access (optional)

Reads transaction notifications from apps you explicitly select, to log spending automatically. Granted separately in system settings.

Internet

Reserved for the Open Banking connection layer. The current build ships a working mock provider; no live bank connection exists yet.

Biometrics

Locks the app behind your fingerprint or face unlock.

Further Detail

  • Transactions, receipts and categories are stored in a local database.
  • Receipt text recognition runs on the device via ML Kit — images are not uploaded.
  • Notification reading is opt-in, per-app, and processed locally.
  • The Open Banking layer currently targets a mock provider; any future live connection will be documented before release.
  • A biometric lock protects the app.

Data Retention

Financial records stay on the device until you delete them.

Data Deletion

Delete entries in the app, or clear the app's storage in Android settings to remove everything.

Children and Age Considerations

Spend is a general-audience app. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

External Links

Where the app links to external websites or services, those destinations are clearly indicated and governed by their own privacy policies.

Changes to This Policy

If the app's behaviour changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes for a released app will also be reflected in its Google Play listing.

Privacy Enquiries

Questions about this policy can be raised via the contact page or the Spend support page. The website privacy page covers this website itself — the app and the site are separate software with separate behaviour.
